Aspergers Family Support Group
'Siblings Australia Workshop'

The Aspergers Family Support Group will be hosting a 'Siblings Australia Workshop' on the 10th August 9.30-11.30. There is a $5 fee, however the fee shall include a light lunch and giveaways.

This event is kindly funded by the Northern Cares Network and local Business for the Giveaways.

Venue

The Lynay Community Centre, 8 Pineridge Drive, Blakeview.

Come and Try Higher Education 2007

Not sure if you can succeed at TAFE or university because you have a disability or medical condition? Attend Come and Try Higher Education 2007 and:

Find out

- what it is like to study in higher education
- meet the disability services staff
- talk to students with disabilties currently studying at TAFE and uni
- identify the wide range of services available to you
- start your Transiton plan
- ask all the questions you want to!

There are sessions for:

- Students intending to do Certificate IV or higher at TAFESA and university
- Students intending to do Certificate 1-3 courses at TAFESA or other RTOs
- Teachers, careers advisers and parents

Teaching 9 Critical Communication Skills: Promoting Functional Communication for those with disabilities

This one-day workshop describes 9 critical functional communication skills required by all communicators, independent of their communicative modality.  We will distinguish between communication that is spontaneous, responsive and imitative.  When people cannot initiate, or otherwise calmly use these skills, many serious behaviour problems are likely to arise...
