Good News Stories from Parents - David's Story

My son, David Murphy, gained acceptance into the prestigious iCarnegie program at TAFE SA South – City Campus. For David it has been a long, hard effort to succeed and he has now completed his course and gained the following qualifications:

  • iCarnegie Certificate in Software Systems Development,
  • iCarnegie Certificate in Computer Programming,
  • TAFE Diploma of IT (Software Development) and,
  • TAFE Certificate 4 in Programming.

David is among the approximate 25% of students that start the course and actually finish. He stumbled a couple of times during the course of his studies. With the support and encouragement of his family, friends and the Education Manager, Principal Lecturers and Lecturing Staff at TAFE SA South - City Campus, he has completed this very difficult course.

The iCarnegie program is delivered at City Campus from subjects prepared in Pittsburgh in the United States. David’s qualifications are accepted world wide. Allowing David to leave school before the end of year 12 was the best thing that could have happened. He was harassed at school, but accepted for who he was at TAFE a conscientious, determined student.

The acceptance and understanding he gained at TAFE will stand him in good stead for the rest of his life. David’s Mother, Sister and I sincerely thank the Lecturing and office staff for the compassion, patience and understanding they have shown David over the past 6 years.

We have no hesitation in recommending the Information Technology Studies Department at TAFE SA South – City Campus to anyone looking for a course, or part of a course, to anyone with a child with Asperger syndrome or autism that has a propensity for computers either in programming or networking.

Now we are looking for a job David that can fully utilise his talents. Anyone need a programmer?
