Autism SA held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday 25 November 2015, with almost 50 people attending to meet the organisation’s new Patron and hear from its President, Treasurer and Chief Executive Officer. Attendees included people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), their families and carers – as well as Autism SA’s Board of Directors, management and staff.
A highlight of the event was the presentation provided by incoming Paton - highly regarded academic, Professor Warren Bebbington. Professor Bebbington, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Adelaide and the father of a child with ASD, spoke about his family’s journey and emphasised him commitment to working with Autism SA to improve awareness and understanding ASD and advocate for increased government and private sector funding.
A Fulbright Scholar and former teacher, Professor Bebbington brings to the role an understanding of the critical importance of early intervention in supporting those with ASD. As Patron, he will assist Autism SA in the ongoing development of programs designed to encourage community and social inclusion – in particular, within educational environments.
Autism SA’s 2014/15 annual report was formally delivered, with presentations by President, Jenny Karavolos, Treasurer, Troy Mohler, and Chief Executive Officer, Barrie Elvish.
