Squeeze Machine
Dr. Temple Grandin, an American woman with
autism, devised a machine which she would lie in to give
herself deep pressure that she found calmed her anxiety,
hyperactivity, and acute tactile sensitivity. Replicas of
this device have been manufactured, and individuals with
autism, their families, and professionals have utilised
variations of these principles. Many people with an Autism
Spectrum Disorder use weighted vests or quilts to experience
calming pressure.
