Floor-time
Floor-time, a play based therapy is part of
the Developmental, Individual Differences, Relationship-based
Approach (DIR) developed by Stanley Greenspan and Serena
Wieder. Based on six emotional developmental stages, Floor-time
involves actively playing with the child while following
four goals: encouraging attention and intimacy, two-way
communication, encouraging the expression and use of feelings
and ideas, and logical thought. The purpose is to help the
child master milestones in sequential order. Floor-time
sessions are in 20-30 minute blocks, with a number of sessions
each day.
