DORE Achievement Centres
Originally designded for those with ADD, ADHD, dyslexia or dyspraxia, the DORE program has been used with children with Asperger syndrome. Results with this group are not scientifically confirmed. When learning how to perform a task an individual will think about the sequence of events and then what needs to be completed within each step in order to complete the task successfully. Through practice and repetition the individual will then be able to perform this task almost without thinking, i.e. it becomes automatic. For persons with learning difficulties, automaticity is not achieved for many skills. Simple skills such as reading, writing, and spelling remain very difficult. The DORE exercises, using repetitive coordination and balancing activities, help develop the capacity for automaticity.
