Diagnostic Assessment Training

Autism SA provides training opportunities for suitably qualified professionals  (Psychologists, Speech Pathologists, Paediatricians, Psychiatrists) to be trained in the diagnostic assessment process.

Full training programs are typically held four times a year; short programs can be arranged depending on the professional’s prior experience.

The Full Training Program involves:

Participants then individually:

  • observe and participate in actual assessments at Autism SA involving a range of ages and ability levels (number of assessments to be determined with each professional). This includes pre-assessment briefing and discussion, observation of assessment and feedback session, post-assessment briefing and discussion with opportunities for questioning and clarification.
  • engage in case study discussions based on reading, observations and videoed assessments.
  • demonstrate skills and knowledge required through carrying out assessments, discussing outcomes with parents/carers and writing reports.

The fee for this program is $750

Short Programs:

  • assessment and feedback session, post-assessment briefing and discussion with opportunities for questioning and clarification.
  • Demonstration of skills and knowledge required through carrying out assessments, discussing outcomes with parents/carers and writing reports.

It is anticipated that professionals completing Diagnostic Assessment Training will contribute to a minimum number (to be discussed with each professional) of multi-disciplinary diagnostic assessments a year in the private and/or public domain. Professionals who successfully complete the training will, at their request, be included on the register of professionals who work with the diagnostic team of Autism SA that is provided to parents and agencies seeking options for diagnostic assessments in the state.
