Family Workshops

Spectrum Advisory Services presents workshops for families registered for services with Autism SA. Topics include introductory sessions, behaviour, social skills and independent living.

All sessions are held at Autism SA, 262 Marion Road, Netley and are $15 (inc GST) per family, payable at the door. To register call the Info Line on 1300 288 476.

Asperger syndrome and social skills

This session will introduce some of the social difficulties that children experience and discuss strategies that can assist them. 
Date: Monday 2 April 2012 Time: 9:30am - 12:30pm


Siblings and Autism Spectrum Disorder

Tips for families/carers on how to address the needs of siblings who have a brother or sister with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. Includes common issues, the role of the parent/carer and helpful resources.

Learning about behaviour

This three week course introduces the nature and function of behaviour and indentifies the key issues and strategies to support individuals. This course is similar to "Hear my behaviour".

Pre-requisite: to attending Introduction to Asperger syndrome or autism, must be able to attend all 3 sessions. ($15.00 per session)

Preparing your child for independent living 

Explores practical steps families can take in order to begin to prepare a child with ASD for independent living. Suitable for parents/carers of children who are over 12 years.

An introduction to Asperger syndrome for families with a new diagnosis (up to13yrs)

Focused on families of younger children and also individuals with Asperger syndrome, this session descibes the characteristics, possible causes and helpful strategies.
Dates: Monday 20 February 2012 and Wednesday 2 May 2012 Time: 7:00pm - 9:00am
 

An introduction to Asperger syndrome for families with a new diagnosis (13yrs+)

Focused on families of older children and also individuals with Asperger syndrome, this session descibes the characteristics, possible causes and helpful strategies.
Dates: Monday 5 March 2012 and Wednesday 13 June 2012 Time: 7:00pm - 9:00am 

 

An introduction to autism for families with a new diagnosis

An introduction to autism and an opportunity to meet other parents of children with autism.
Dates: Monday 6 February 2012 and Wednesday 9 May 2012 Time: 7:00pm - 9:00pm  
 

Tackling the Tough Topics-Masturbation, Menstruation and Hygiene.

(Primary Focus)

This workshop covers a range of essential topics including: Body awareness, personal hygiene, how to teach concepts such as public/private, the cir-cle of friendship, managing behaviour such as masturbation and supporting girls at puberty with menstruation.
